Scheme of Delegation for the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland
The Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2022 provided for the Department to make a Scheme of Delegation for the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (the Commission) to permit some of the Commission's functions to be delegated to staff, subject to public consultation.
Consultation
A public consultation ran from March to June 2023, with the majority of respondents supporting the prospective Scheme.
The Department’s response to the consultation is published along with the Scheme of Delegation for the Charity Commission which is in effect from 13 February 2025.
This Scheme will be formally reviewed after two years, with each subsequent revision reviewed every five years, and may be reviewed at any time if deemed necessary.
The Department is thankful to all those who took time to respond to the consultation.
This Scheme of Delegation marks a significant milestone in strengthening charity regulation and reinforcing the Department and Commission’s collective commitment to supporting charities in their essential role in society.
