  • Active Living No Limits 2021 Project “All Out Trekking”

    • Health and disability issues and sport

As part of the Active Living-No Limits Action Plan 2016 -2021, which aims to ensure that everyone including those with a disability have an equal opportunity to access sport and active recreation leading to a healthier and more active lifestyle, the “All Out Trekking” Project has been developed by Disability Sport NI to give those with a disability the opportunity to access the countryside through the provision of a range of specialist outdoor wheelchairs and all-terrain vehicles based at Gosford Forest Park in County Armagh.

Gosford Park is an ideal location, providing 46kms of high quality walking and off-road cycling trails amid the backdrop of the forest and parkland, boasting a diverse range plant and wildlife.

While the focus of this Project is to encourage people with a disability to enjoy getting out and about in this area of great natural beauty, it will also be part of broader initiative to establish a major visitor attraction at the site to also include a visitor centre café, camping and caravanning facilities and a “Gulliver” themed play trail for families.

A Recent taster session proved hugely successful and it is hoped that the second stage of the project will involve the development of a regular outdoor trails participation programme at Gosford Forest Park, in partnership with the local Council. This will also lead to a future demand for additional specialist adapted outdoor vehicles to be permanently located at other outdoor recreation sites.
