    Active Living - Move more; Live better

    Being active is one of the best things you can do for your body and mind. It can help you feel healthier, happier and more connected to others.

    You don’t need to be a professional athlete or run marathons, being active can be as simple as going for a walk, dancing or playing a game with friends. What matters most is finding something you enjoy.

    Being active should be fun and it’s all about taking that first step. Whether it’s doing an activity on your own, with a friend or being part of a team there are a range of opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity that can help you live better.

    Types of Activities

    Physical activity means moving your body and using energy. It can be anything from everyday tasks like walking the dog, cleaning or gardening to things like hiking, swimming, going to the gym.

    Local councils offer a variety of sport and physical activity opportunities from swimming and gym sessions to sports clubs and fitness classes.

    Communities Minister, Gordon Lyons MLA, launched the Move More, Live Better campaign on 11 August 2025 with a clear message – you don’t have to become an athlete, moving more and living better can start with one small step. Our campaign is here to support you to find activities nearby that you enjoy. Take that first step today to feel good, meet people, and become more active in your community.
