    Date published: 28 February 2020

Minister for Communities Deirdre Hargey MLA has today written to the chairs of Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships and Area at Risk representatives to outline that she is committed to protecting the budget for those programmes until 2022.

People and Place A Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal and it associated programme, is a long term commitment to communities to work in partnership to identify priorities and interventions which ensure that those living in our most deprived communities have access to the best possible services and opportunities.

The Minister said: “As someone who has played a role in the development and delivery of community-led services through Neighbourhood Renewal and other programmes, I have witnessed the positive impacts that they have on local communities and helping those most in need. This is why it was important for me as Minister to take the important step to protect the budgets for those programmes over the next 2 years.”

“The positive impact that this funding has on some of our most deprived communities is immeasurable. In addition the funding helps provide employment to several hundred people who are delivering projects and programmes on the ground to those communities most in need.”

The Minister added: “As well as protecting the budget for the next 2 years, I have also asked my officials to scope a revised funding model for this vital programme for the years ahead.”
