Lyons backing athletes in pursuit of Commonwealth Games success

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has offered the athletes taking part in the Commonwealth Games his support.
The Minister said:
“Northern Ireland will be proudly represented in Glasgow this week at the 23rd Commonwealth Games where our athletes compete against the best competitors from across the Commonwealth.
“Our athletes are outstanding ambassadors for Northern Ireland. Their dedication, resilience and commitment inspire people. I wish every member of Team NI every success in Glasgow and hope they enjoy this incredible opportunity to compete at the highest level.
The 23rd Commonwealth Games take place from 23 July to 2 August 2026 in Glasgow
Commenting on the power of sport, Minister Lyons said:
“The determination and positive attitudes demonstrated by our athletes can inspire people of all ages to become more active in their daily lives.
Sport has the power not only to bring people together but also to improve both our physical and mental wellbeing. Through campaigns like Move More, Live Better, I encourage everyone to enjoy the benefits that an active lifestyle can bring – from better health and wellbeing to stronger, more connected communities.”
