Suspended sentence for benefit fraud at Derry Magistrates’ Court

A man has been convicted at Derry Magistrates’ Court for fraudulently claiming over £12,500 in benefits.
Michael McIntyre (28), of Northland Road, Londonderry, claimed Universal Credit totalling £12,591.58 whilst failing to declare that he was in full-time education. He was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, suspended for twelve months. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
Mr McIntyre is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongly obtained to the Department.
