    Consultation description

The Department for Communities (DfC) has responsibility for government support for the museums sector in Northern Ireland, including sponsorship of the NI Museums Council (NIMC) and National Museums NI (NMNI). This consultation is a key stage in developing a new Museums Policy to replace the 2011 policy and set direction for the next 10 years.

We are inviting feedback on the draft vision, the policy aims and a number of emerging issues where action might be taken. These proposals have been developed following extensive engagement with museums across Northern Ireland and informed by research into current practice across the UK and internationally.

Your views will play an essential role in shaping a new Museums Policy for Northern Ireland.
We encourage respondents to submit their feedback through Citizen Space. However, if this is not possible, you may also respond by email or in writing using the postal address provided.

The Department has also published its Equality Impact Screening document as part of this consultation.

A privacy notice specific to this consultation has also been published.
