Operational responsibility for Landlord Registration will transfer from the Department for Communities to councils.
This is intended to increase compliance with the legal requirement for private landlords to register. The transfer will also mean a new revenue stream for councils which can be used to target enforcement of private tenancies legislation and drive up standards in the private rented sector. The policy is expected to benefit tenants living in the private sector.
