  • Notice to Quit Consultation (Extending the Notice to Quit in the Private Rented Sector) - screening

    Topics:
    • Housing,
    • Private rented sector

    Date published: 24 November 2021

The Department previously consulted in 2017 on a proposal to extend the notice to quit that a landlord is required to give a tenant to 8 weeks however Minister does not think this is a sufficient timeframe for someone to find alternative affordable accommodation and asked that we consult again in respect of a longer period.

The key objectives of the consultation are to:

    • determine an appropriate time for a private tenant to receive a notice to leave the home they currently have and allow them an adequate period of time to find suitable alternative accommodation and
    • identify any circumstances in which a shorter notice period would be appropriate

    Exisiting/Revised/New: Revised
    Date of Screening: 24/11/2021
Screening Outcome - Full EQIA recommended: No
