Guidance on the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages

The European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages (the Charter) is a Council of Europe Treaty signed by the UK on 2 March 2000 and ratified on 27 March 2001. The Charter came into force on 1 July 2001. The UK subscribed to commitments for Irish and Ulster Scots under Part II of the Charter, and a number of provisions for Irish under Part III of the Charter.
