Suspended Sentence for benefit fraud at Newry Magistrates’ Court

A man has been convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court for knowingly providing false documents as part of a Universal Credit claim.
Cosmin Varga (41), of O’Neill Avenue, Newry, provided false medical documents in respect of his Universal Credit claim. He was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment suspended for two years. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
There was no overpayment in this case due to the vigilance of staff in recognising the false documents provided.
