Suspended sentence for benefit fraud at Laganside Crown Court

A man has been convicted at Laganside Crown Court for fraudulently claiming over £6,800 in benefits he was not entitled to.
Martin May (67), of Whiterock Close, Belfast, claimed Universal Credit totalling £6,867 whilst failing to declare employment and capital. He was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, suspended for one year. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
Mr May is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongly obtained to the Department.
