Suspended sentence for benefit fraud at Newry Crown Court

A woman has been convicted at Newry Crown Court for fraudulently claiming over £35,700 in benefits she was not entitled to.
Yvonne Hoey (56), of Molly Road, Jonesborough, Newry, claimed Employment Support Allowance and rate relief totalling £35,724 whilst failing to declare receiving capitial while claiming benefits. She was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment suspended for two years. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
Ms Hoey has repaid all monies wrongly obtained to the Department.
