    Summary

    The Department for Communities (DfC) is undertaking a short, focused consultation on the introduction a Code of Practice for gambling operators, ie those who hold a licence, permit or certificate under the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985.

    Consultation description

    The Department is bringing forward this Code in accordance with a power proposed under Clause 15 of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Amendment) Bill which was introduced for consideration in the Northern Ireland Assembly by the Minister of Communities, Deirdre Hargey MLA, in September 2021. Links to the Bill and the Explanatory and Financial Memorandum as they currently appear on the Assembly’s web site are provide below for information.

    Assuming the Bill, including Clause 15, is approved by the Assembly and en-acted the Department would have the power, subject to a commencement Order, to bring draft Codes of Practice into effect.
