    The amendments made provision for the use of the telephone when making a claim to industrial injuries benefit (IIB) and for the use of electronic communication when making a claim to IIB or employment and support allowance (ESA). The Regulations also provide for claimants, and the Secretary of State, to exchange information and evidence in connection with awards of IIB and ESA by means of an electronic communication.
