Under the Landlord Registration Scheme Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 all private landlords must provide accurate and up to date information about themselves and their properties to the Registrar.

Information about how to register as a landlord, costs and reasons for exemption can be found on NI Direct Landlord Registration Scheme.

It should also be noted that a tenant can report a landlord to the local council if they fail to register or provide false information for registration. A person found guilty of either of these offences can be issued with a fixed penalty of up to £500 or if taken to court can be fined up to £2,500.
