European Heritage Open Days are held in Northern Ireland as part of the annual European wide festival. Historic Environment Division (HED) within the Department for Communities (DfC) co-ordinates this event. The purpose is to promote public interest in heritage and to raise awareness of its cultural significance and benefit to the community.

This guidance was created for organisers wanting to get involved with European Heritage Open Days (EHOD) in 2026 to understand the overall process and aims of the event. It includes an overview how to register, the theme for the event, and tips on being involved.
