    The Civil Contingencies Grant aids councils in delivering on their statutory function of Emergency Planning (Civil Contingencies) work.

    This grant primarily funds the salaries and running costs of the Regional Resilience Team with a small budget allocated to support costs to manage and sustain the local level civil contingencies arrangements for Northern Ireland (for example to fund civil contingency exercises).

    Article 29 of Local Government (Northern Ireland) Order 2005 provides the Department with a power to make grants to district councils or other persons for the purpose of or in connection with arrangements made or entered into under powers in relation to emergency planning.
