    Date published: 21 June 2017

Women in Sport Week 2017 runs from 19 to 25 June and is a national initiative which is supported locally by amongst others the Department for Communities, SportNI and the Female Sports Forum.

DfC Sports Branch has been working with SportNI, the Female Sports Forum, Sport Governing Bodies and other organisations to encourage more women and girls of all ages to get involved in physical activity, to try out a new sport or to simply go for a walk.

Increasing female participation is a key objective of the Sports Matters Strategy and this summer sees a great line up of international competition to inspire future stars. The highlights of the summer will undoubtedly be the Women’s U19 UEFA Championship Finals which run from 8 to 20 August and the Women’s Rugby World Cup semi-finals and finals which will take place in Belfast on 22 August and 26 August respectively.

Women in Sport Week is all about encouraging more women and girls to try out a new sport or physical activity. There are a variety of activities taking place which provide opportunities for women and girls to be Active, Fit & Sporty.

For listings of all the events and opportunities to get involved in sport, and particularly for events taking place this week, you can follow the Female Sports Forum via social media.
