Transformation of Queen’s Parade a step closer: Morrow

Social Development Minister Lord Morrow MLA, today welcomed the appointment of consultants who will identify a suitable developer to deliver the significant Queen’s Parade Redevelopment Scheme in Bangor.
GM Design Associates Limited have been appointed to assist the Department for Social Development (DSD) in drawing up a development brief which will be put to the market to identify a private sector partner who will deliver this project.
In March 2015 planning approval was granted by North Down Borough Council Planning Committee for a comprehensive mixed-use development in Queen’s Parade. The development will see in excess of 25,000 sq metres of floor space utilised to support the regeneration of the area and will include two hotels, shopping areas and car parking facilities.
Minister Morrow said: “My Department has secured full planning permission for a major Regeneration Scheme at Queen’s Parade Bangor. The proposals put forward will restore the area into an attractive, vibrant, inclusive place for everyone to enjoy and enhance the reputation of this popular seaside town as a key tourist and shopping destination.
“This appointment is a key step in the development process and I expect to have identified a preferred development partner by September 2016.”
The Minister added: “The appointment of this multi-disciplinary team is another positive step towards bringing forward a comprehensive Regeneration Scheme for Bangor and in particular the run down area of Queen’s Parade which is in much need of revitalisation and regeneration.”
The Department and the consultant’s team will work closely with Ards &North Down Borough Council and key stakeholders in Bangor to deliver a Scheme that will maximise the benefits that such a significant project can bring to a major town such Bangor.
