Suspended sentence for benefit fraud at Craigavon Crown Court

A man has been convicted at Craigavon Crown Court for fraudulently claiming over £18,600 in benefits.
Timothy McGowan (67), of Lisburn Square, Lisburn, claimed Universal Credit totalling £18,652.60 while failing to declare capital. He was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment suspended for eighteen months. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
Mr McGowan is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongly obtained to the Department.
