Extension to the term of the Executive’s Active Ageing Strategy to May 2022.

The Strategy has a vision ‘of being an age friendly region in which people as they get older, are valued and supported to live actively to their fullest potential; with their rights respected and their dignity protected.’

The existing Active Ageing Strategy was due to end in January 2021. The Executive has worked to update the actions in the Strategy, including those to mitigate the medium to long-term impacts of the current pandemic.

Making the announcement, the Minister said:

“I am delighted to relaunch the Active Ageing Strategy and extend it until 2022 to allow us to continue the progress we have already made. Our older citizens make a significant contribution to society. They have shown fortitude and determination in overcoming the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Promoting the wellbeing of older people and ensuring they can enjoy life to the fullest must remain a priority. The relaunch of the Strategy will help us to keep up momentum in working to support the older people in our communities.”

The extended strategy can be accessed via the department’s website
