Londonderry businesses to benefit from £268,000 Revitalisation Scheme

Date published: 27 October 2016

Sixteen properties in Upper Strand Road and Clooney Terrace, Londonderry are to be transformed thanks to a £268,300 shop front improvement scheme.

Minister Givan

The Revitalisation scheme, which is being funded by the Department for the Communities and was developed alongside Derry City and Strabane District Council and the City Centre Initiative, aims to provide some uniformity to shop front appearances and includes the installation of new frontages, painting, replacement of rainwater goods, and repairing or replacement of windows, doors and external plasterwork.

Announcing the initiative, Communities Minister Paul Givan said: “This funding will help to improve the appearance of the shop fronts in these two key commercial streets and complements my Department’s earlier investments to enhance the public realm in the area. The improvements will attract more shoppers to the streets, bringing a boost to trade and increasing the vibrancy of the area.

“I will continue to work in partnership with the Council and other key stakeholders to identify and deliver initiatives which will contribute to the further regeneration of the City.”

Works have already commenced on site and are due to be completed before 31 March 2017.
