Givan welcomes new outdoor play space at Springhill Primary School

Date published: 16 December 2016

Communities Minister Paul Givan today announced the completion of the £178,000 outdoor play space and eco garden project at Springhill Primary School.

Springhill Primary School caters for 180 pupils and had no outdoor play space particularly for its play group and pre-school children.

The Department approved funding of £178,000 to the project which includes growing space/eco garden. The Department has been implementing a number of these schemes in partnership with the Education Authority to improve facilities for younger children.

Welcoming the new facilities at Springhill Primary School, the Minister said:  “Play for children helps them to blossom and flourish and is essential for their learning and development.  This project will create a safe environment for children to have access to play whilst improving their health and well being.

“By funding these types of schemes, the Northern Ireland Executive through my Department continues to invest in the improvement of disadvantaged neighbourhoods.  I am determined these areas will become more attractive places in which to live, work, play and invest.  Of course, schemes like this do not happen on their own and this project is an excellent example of the public sectors coming together to deliver benefits for this local community, in this case between my Department and the Education Authority.”
