Communities Minister Paul Givan has announced an investment of over £450,000 for revitalisation schemes in Cookstown and Dungannon.

Minister Paul Givan

The NI Executive, through the Department for Communities, is investing £150,000 in each town with further funding being provided by Mid Ulster Council and private investment.

The projects will result in new shop frontages in both towns and a range of new promotional and marketing initiatives will be developed to increase awareness of what the towns have to offer visitors and shoppers. In addition, a number of environmental repairs will be carried out on Shambles Lane in Dungannon and both towns have already invested in new Christmas lighting.

Announcing the funding, Minister Givan said: “This funding will promote and further improve the appearance of Cookstown and Dungannon town centres. Residents of both towns have already seen some of the rewards of the scheme through the installation of new Christmas lights, while work to upgrade shop fronts will complement my Department’s earlier investments to enhance the public realm in both areas.”

The Minister added: “Revitalisation schemes help breathe new life into our town centres and supports local businesses to grow, boosting trade and increasing footfall. I will continue to work in partnership with the Council and other key stakeholders to identify and deliver initiatives which will contribute to the further regeneration of Mid Ulster.”

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Trevor Wilson commented: “The Council welcomes this generous investment from the Department for Communities towards additional revitalisation works in Cookstown and Dungannon. This follows the completion of multi-million pound public realm schemes in both towns and will continue to contribute to the delivery of town regeneration activities and helping us maximise our promotion of the towns as prime shopping destinations.”
