Coalisland sporting facilities boosted by £686,000 investment - Givan

Communities Minister, Paul Givan MLA has announced funding of almost £686,000 to deliver two new sporting facilities for residents living in the Coalisland area.
The Department for Communities is providing funding of over £320,000 towards the delivery of a new Community Activity Centre at the Na Fianna GFC, while Owen Roe’s Brackaville GFC will receive £365,200 to build a 4G Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). Both clubs have also invested a further combined amount of almost £300,000 towards the schemes which includes contributions from Ulster GAA and Mid Ulster District Council.
Both projects are located within a Department for Communities Neighbourhood Renewal area and funding is being provided from its Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund.
Making the announcement, Minister Givan said: “Participation in sport and other leisure activities makes a positive contribution to our health and wellbeing and these new custom designed facilities will deliver significant benefits to the people of Coalisland and beyond.
“Both clubs will now be able to build on existing provisions to widen participation and increase the range of activities on offer. These include a variety of indoor racket and ball sports plus a flood lit all weather MUGA with provision for running and walking.
“It is also particularly pleasing to see the improved facilities for females and young people at the clubs as their memberships continue to grow.”
Minister continued: “Both clubs have invested a substantial amount of their own resources towards the development of these sites and are excellent examples of local volunteers working for the greater good of their communities. I have no doubt that the facilities this funding will provide will help improve the quality of life for many within this Neighbourhood Renewal area.”
Construction work at both sites is expected to begin in Autumn 2016.
