The exhibition explores the stories behind this milestone anniversary and the local connections that link Lisburn and Castlereagh to America’s history. On 4th July 1776, thirteen colonies on the east coast of North America declared independence from Great Britain, leading to the creation of the United States of America. Looking beyond that landmark moment, the exhibition highlights the many Atlantic connections linking local people, places and stories with America, before and after independence.
