The former military base at Grosvenor Barracks was purchased by the Department for Communities in 2008 to be developed for mixed tenure residential.
The twenty acre Grosvenor Barracks site comprised two sections.
- The smaller section being Ballaghmore Heights (2.7 acres in size) to the south of the Coleshill Road which has been fully developed by Clanmil Housing Association.
- The remaining 17.2 acre site previously contained a range of former military buildings and installations, which all have been cleared. A thorough investigation of contamination on the site was undertaken and a remediation plan put in place. A transport assessment was also carried out. Outline planning permission was submitted in January 2011 for a 200 dwelling (mixed tenure) scheme on this site and secured on 28th March 2017.
