Summary
This consultation is to provide evidence to inform the Department as to whether there is a need to exercise the power within Section 12 of the Private Tenancies Act to make regulations to ensure tenants are given a choice of payment options.
Consultation description
This call for views/survey seeks to provide an evidence base on whether private tenants are being given payment options for paying rent and other costs when they take up a tenancy or if some tenants are being forced to pay for these costs in cash. The Department wants to determine if having no choice but to pay rent and other costs in cash is an issue for tenants and if so, how widespread the issue is. Responses will help inform a decision on whether regulations are required to ensure tenants are given a choice of payment options.
This call for views/survey is aimed at tenants, landlords and their representatives, district councils and anyone else with an interest in the private rented sector in Northern Ireland.
The survey/call for views will run for 8 weeks from 22 May 2023 to 17 July 2023.
A copy of the Privacy Notice is available.
In line with the NICS Digital First principle, responses to this call for views/survey should be made online through the Citizen Space survey which can be accessed through the green button below.
