    Summary

    In order to comply with its obligations under section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998, the Department has undertaken an EQIA on proposals to abolish Class 2 National Insurance Contributions which will be brought forward in a National Insurance Contributions Bill in Westminster.

    Consultation description

    It is anticipated that the Bill will:

    • Abolish Class 2 National Insurance Contributions
    • Introduce a new eligibility test for contributory benefits based on the payment of Class 4 National Insurance Contributions
