Housing Inspection

The Department for Communities is the Regulatory Authority for Registered Housing Associations (RHAs) in Northern Ireland and undertakes a programme of inspections in the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) with the NIHE Chief Executive.

About Housing Inspection

The Housing Inspection Branch was set up in 2019 to carry out inspections on the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and the Social Housing Development Programme (SHDP). The branch is situated within the HURLG Division of the Department for Communities. The branch

  • agree, plan and carryout a programme of inspections annually on the NIHE;
  • agree, plan and carryout a programme of inspections annually on the SHDP;
