Department for Communities (DfC) and Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) wanted to understand better the wider landscape for heritage enabled regeneration in Northern Ireland and commissioned RF Associates (RFA) to undertake detailed work with three key aims.

    1. to gather key lessons from heritage enabled regeneration projects (around the UK, the Republic of Ireland and the USA) focused on ‘medium sized towns’
    2. to profile the untapped heritage potential of some Northern Irish ‘medium sized towns’
    3. to develop a process to support the Department for Communities (DfC) to consider how the learning applies in the Northern Ireland context.
