Guidance for Councils on urgent works notices

This good practice guide aims to assist district councils achieve a consistent approach when considering serving an Urgent Works Notice on a listed building (or building in a Conservation Area(CA) where the Department of Infrastructure (DfI) has issued a direction).
Its correct application will help district councils to identify and satisfy legislative requirements with regard to Urgent Works Notices, where works are urgently necessary for the preservation of a listed building (or building within a CA).
This guide does not attempt to provide a detailed account of the legislation and policy that underpin Urgent Works Notices in Northern Ireland, and is not intended to be a source of definitive legal advice. This guide is not intended to replace the need for council judgment in their decision making.
