Community Service for benefit fraud at Laganside Magistrates’ Court

A woman has been convicted at Laganside Magistrates’ Court for fraudulently claiming over £19,000 in benefits.
Elizabeth McClelland (24), of Hopewell Crescent, Belfast, claimed Carer’s Allowance totalling £19,260 whilst failing to declare employment. She was sentenced to 80 hours’ community service. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
Ms McClelland is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongly obtained to the Department.
