Social Development Minister, Lord Morrow MLA today announced that work has started on a £120,000 scheme to regenerate the heart of Limavady.
As part of the scheme Irish Green Street between Catherine Street and Connell Street will be re-paved using high quality paving stones. Decorative street lighting will enhance the fresh new streetscape.
Minister Morrow said: “In the current challenging economic climate our towns must continually update and improve in order to remain competitive. Irish Green Street is a favourite pedestrian route to and from the commercial centre of Limavady. Improving this key route will not only make the area look more attractive but will bring lasting change to the area.
“Following on from my Department’s earlier investment in upgrading the public realm on Main Street, Catherine Street and Linenhall Street, this latest project shows my continued commitment to the implementation of the Limavady Town Centre Masterplan.”
The work is due to be finished by 31 March 2016. The project has been designed by the DRD TransportNI and will be delivered by their Measured Term Contractor.
Transport Minister Michelle McIlveen said: “This is an excellent example of how joint and co-ordinated working between Departments can deliver tangible improvements for the community.
“I look forward to the completion of the scheme and seeing the results of TransportNI’s contribution in terms of technical expertise delivered through our contract partners.”
