About Harryville Motte and Bailey

This is a fine earthwork castle, presumably of the late 12th or early 13th century, the biggest of a group in the Ballymena area. McNeill suggests that it was built by the O’Flynns rather than the Anglo-Normans because it lies outside the earldom. There is a large motte and a rectangular bailey to the east.
