River notice 16-22

Belfast Hydrobikes and Belfast Ahoy Tours

Notice is hereby given that two new commercial boat services have been given licences to operate on the impounded River Lagan.

Lagan Adventures have been given approval to operate a hydrobilke rental service on the Lagan from the Waterfront Hall Pontoon from 5 July 2022. The hydro bikes are self-propelled single seated bicycles on floats. The 25 bikes will be moored alongside the wall directly downstream of the Waterfront Hall Bastion. Whilst on the water the hydro bikes will be escorted at all times by a safety boat and the zone of the operation of the service will be from the Queens Bridge to the McConnel Weir during daylight hours.

Belfast Ahoy Tours have been given approval to operate public and private cruises along the impounded Lagan on the MV Joyce Too from 7 July. The Joyce Too is a 60 person Tour Boat which will be running tours from Lagan Weir up as far as Cutters Wharf (tides permitting). At present the river boat service will be running ad hoc tours until bookings come in and then a timetable will be issued when finalised. The first commercial tour will commence from Lagan Weir to Cutters Wharf on Thursday 7 July at 1900hrs and will return at 2200hrs.

River users are asked to exercise due caution around both of these new river operators and give them as wide a berth as possible

The River Warden’s boat will be on duty to ensure that river users comply with the River Lagan Tidal Navigation and General Bye-Laws (NI) 2007 applicable to this Notice.
