River notice 04-22

Navigation information - week commencing 28 March 2022

Notice is hereby given of the following navigational information for river users:

On Thursday and Friday a diving team will be carrying out an underwater inspection of the Lagan Viaduct (NIR Railway Bridge).

The diving team will be working from a workboat and an Alpha flag will be on display when divers are in the water.  River users are asked to use extra vigilance and caution when navigating in this part of the river and to give the diving operations a wide berth.

From Thursday the MV Joyce Too will return to the river and will be navigating the length of the river to familiarise staff in preparation for a potential commercial operation commencing over the summer months. The Joyce Too is an 11m long boat capable of carrying 60 passengers. River users are requested to be extra vigilant and reminded to follow the navigational system in place on the river as per the river user’s guide available from the DfC website.

From Friday of this week the tern island will be back in its usual place opposite the wall at Tennants Textiles. The island will be out of the main navigation channel and will be marked by two orange buoys.

The River Wardens boat Sacha will be on duty to ensure that river users comply with the River Lagan Tidal Navigation and General Bye Laws (NI) applicable to this notice.
