Navigation information - revetment repairs - March-April 2021
Notice is hereby given that a contractor will be carrying out repairs to the riverbank’s stone pitched revetments in March and April. The location of the repairs is as highlighted on the enclosed location plan. The works will be carried out to the County Down riverbank 300m upstream of Ravenhill Reach pontoon and slipway. The work area will be contained within a sheet piled cofferdam which will project approx. 10m into the river. The work area will be enclosed by navigation buoys and any floating plant will be lit at night.
This repair work is very high priority and is essential to ensure that the riverbanks are protected from erosion and the aesthetic quality of the river corridor is maintained. To enable the contractor to carry out the work efficiently it may be necessary to lower the river below the normal minimum impoundment level on rare occasions. Normal water based activities such as rowing will not be possible when water levels are reduced however every effort will be made to keep lowerings to a minimum. Driving of the sheet pile cofferdam to contain the works will commence on w/c 15 March and consequently there will be increased river traffic in this area during the contract, which may mean access to the slipway may be more congested than usual.
DFC regrets any inconvenience that this work will cause but trusts that those affected will understand the necessity of the work for the essential long term maintenance of the river corridor. Email updates will be provided to river users as the work progresses and anyone wishing to be included in the river information email circulation list can do so by emailing a request to firstname.lastname@example.orgPeter Gallagher
