Suspended sentence for £800 benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today for claiming £848 in benefits he was not entitled to.

James Blake (39) of Norglen Road, Belfast claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance totalling £848 while failing to declare employment. He was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 24 months. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
