Suspended sentence for benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Newry Crown Court today for claiming over £8,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.

Kieran Collins (33) of Cullaville Road, Crossmaglen claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance totalling £8,172 while failing to declare excess capital. He was given two months imprisonment suspended for two years. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

All wrongfully obtained money has been repaid to the Department for Communities
