Newtownbutler man convicted for £7,000 benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Omagh Crown Court today for claiming over £7,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.

Patrick McDonagh (35) of Galloon Gardens, Newtownbutler, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £7,750 while failing to declare he had excess capital. He was given a 20 weeks custodial sentence suspended for two years. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
