A man was convicted at Londonderry Crown Court today for claiming over £15,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.
Desmond Devine (65) of Abercorn Road, Londonderry, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £15,983 while failing to declare he had excess capital. He was given a six month prison sentence suspended for two years. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
