Five convicted at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court of benefit fraud

Five men were convicted at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Malachy Berger (59) of Gouldy Bridge, Craigavon claimed Employment and Support Allowance totalling £7,867 while failing to declare employment. He was given a £250 fine and £15 offender levy. Mr Berger has repaid all wrongfully obtained monies to the Department for Communities. 

Glynn Curry (57) of Church Hill Gardens, Dromore wrongfully cashed a Disability Living Allowance cheque totalling £100. He was given a twelve month conditional discharge.

Augusto Figueredo (44) of Davis Street, Keady claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £2,068 while failing to declare employment. He was given a five month prison sentence suspended for two years.

Darren O’Hare (41) of Silverwood Leaves, Craigavon claimed  Housing Benefit totalling £744 while failing to declare employment. He was given a twelve month conditional discharge.

Jordan Godson (24) of Cambrai Drive, Warringstown claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance totalling £391.69 while failing to declare employment. He was given a £120 fine and £15 offender levy.

They are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
