A woman was convicted at Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court today for claiming over £2,000 in benefits she was not entitled to.
Una Sawey (32) of Bearnagh Green, Newcastle, claimed Carer’s Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £2,263 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £300 plus £15 offender levy. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
