The Department for Communities Financial Investigation Unit has obtained a Confiscation Order to the value of £8,336.26 against a Strabane woman at Dungannon Crown Court.
Martina Barr (58) of Derg Villas, Strabane claimed Employment and Support Allowance on the basis she was unfit for work and did not have savings over the statutory threshold.
During her claim to benefits the Department carried out an investigation which confirmed that the defendant held capital in excess of the statutory limits.
On 7 April 2017, the defendant pleaded guilty to a single charge of dishonesty at Dungannon Crown Court. On 14 November 2018, the Court granted a Confiscation Order in the amount of £8,336.26. The defendant must satisfy the order by 14 February 2019 or serve a six month prison sentence for non-payment of the order, which will remain payable.
