The Department for Communities’ Financial Investigation Unit obtained a Confiscation Order to the value of £14,786.29 against a local man at Lurgan Crown Court on 5 October.
Christopher Reynolds (51), of Belvedere Manor Lurgan, claimed Carers Allowance on the grounds that he was a carer and not earning in excess of the permitted weekly allowance. The defendant’s failure to declare his true circumstances resulted in overpayments of Carers Allowance over a three year period.
In May 2018, Mr Reynolds pleaded guilty in relation to this claim to benefits. At the confiscation hearing the Court granted a Confiscation Order in the amount of £14,786.29. The defendant must satisfy the order by 5 January 2019 or serve a four week prison sentence for non-payment of the order, which will remain payable.
