The Department for Communities' Financial Investigation Unit obtained a Confiscation Order to the value of £10,661.17 against a Coagh man at Londonderry Crown Court today.
Brian McCormick (65) from Urbal Lane, Coagh claimed Jobseekers' Allowance on the basis that he was unemployed and had no other sources of income.
During his claim to benefits the Department carried out an investigation which established that the defendant was in receipt of an occupational pension that he had not disclosed.
On 21 December 2017, the defendant was found guilty on two charges of dishonesty. At the confiscation hearing today, the Court granted a Confiscation Order in the amount of £10,661.17. The defendant must satisfy the order by 6 March 2019 or serve up to five years prison sentence for non-payment of the order, which will remain payable.
