The Department for Communities’ Financial Investigation Unit obtained a Confiscation Order to the value of £22,000 against a Belfast woman at Craigavon Crown Court today.
Ann Fagan (55) claimed Income Support on the basis that she was a single parent who was in receipt of Carer's Allowance for her son.
During her claim to benefits the defendant failed to declare that she was living with her husband. As a result of this she received a total of £23,075.18 in benefits that she was not entitled to over a three year period.
On 26 February 2018, the defendant pleaded guilty to four charges of dishonesty at Craigavon Crown Court. At the confiscation hearing today the Court granted a Confiscation Order in the amount of £22,000. The defendant must satisfy the order by 15 June 2019 or serve a six week prison sentence for non-payment of the order, which will remain payable.
