A man was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming over £12,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.
Lyndon McCartney (21) of Dominic Street, Newry claimed Income Support and Carer’s Allowance totalling £12,353 while failing to declare a change in circumstances. He was given 120 hours Community Service. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
